About GridGranny

GridGranny with racing driver Dan Ticktum

At 72, I didn’t expect a Formula E weekend to make me want to become a journalist again.

I’m Denise, a 72-year-old grandmother who thought her journalism days were well and truly behind her — until motorsport dragged me back in.

My journalism career began rather unexpectedly while I was living in Spain, when I started writing a sailing column for an English-language newspaper. From there, things escalated somewhat. I went on to cover everything from the Ryder Cup, the US and British Masters and the Commonwealth Games to celebrity interviews and Crufts.

I later spent around 15 years working for a dog newspaper, before eventually leaving journalism behind.

Or so I thought.

Then came Formula E. My granddaughter Melissa had media accreditation for the London E-Prix and, somewhere between the racing, the paddock and all the stories happening around us, I realised how much I’d missed writing.

And that’s how GridGranny was born.

This isn’t a website pretending I’m an expert on everything with four wheels. It’s motorsport from my point of view — the racing, the people, the paddock chatter, the funny bits and the stories that catch my eye. There’ll probably be some travel and other adventures along the way too.

At 72, I have absolutely no intention of growing old gracefully. Apparently, I’ve got articles to write.

So, who is GridGranny?
